My network record speed ATM through this switch was a sustained 38MB/S+ since HDD speed was the limiting factor I couldn't get any more, and at lans it would easy provide speeds from what I've seen 30MB/S for 5 people using it at the same time the others were on 100mb toping out at a healthy 8-10MB/S. With the SMC8508T, you can connect your existing 10/100 Ethernet network to a Gigabit server backbone without any additional equipment. I'm now looking towards a managed solution for a replacement. The SMC8508T is a 8-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch that provides non-blocking, wire-speed switching for your 10, 100, and 1000 megabit network clients. Then again you get what you pay for, I'm now opting for a more "quality" endorsed switch even though this still does the job fine. The reason I got it was when I got it Almost a year or 2 ago it was the best bang for buck buy at the time (it was ~$230au, other 8 ports close too $300). Īs a switch it's does its job more then adequatly. The heatsink fell fell off so I opted for some active cooling, and then took the 60mm off the top and enlarged the hole to 90mm so that the now activly cooled chip could get some fresh air. Well the great big hole can be explained as the way it was before was that it had a 60mm fan mounted ontop of it blowing air into the switch in the center, flowing onto a cut down version of a gold zalman passive chipset cooler.

Not really a worklog so to speak, just a show off, of wasted time Off corse this shouldn't be tried if you intend on any warrenty claim as you would all know Alot of people mod cases and what not, why not kick it up a notch Primed the entire outside then sprayed ~6-8 light coats of black enamel to give it that dark smooth look, pics came up chatty I know hides the dust and blemishes. After which the front ports were covered with masking tape and the case had gotten lightly sanded. The hole was cut by me drilling lots of holes in a circle fashion (Didn't have a hole saw big enough) then punching out the middle and a hell of a lot of filling. and some of those ram sinks you can buy just choped in half Kinda went the bling direction with the grill on top, Looks 'alright' to me Its a "SMC EZSwitch 10/100/1000 8508T" and I figured with all the leaching it has to direct at the many lans I been too it could do with some "upgrades".
